Nuit Noire, presented by Black Space Winnipeg is an Afrocentric artist showcase in association Nuit Blanche arts festival. Founded on the principles of diversity and inclusion, Nuit Noire provides emerging and established Black artists a platform in one of Winnipeg's largest arts festivals.
History - NUIT NOIRE 2016
Black Space Winnipeg featured the second instalment of our Afrocentric artist showcase: Nuit Noire. Nuit Noire was founded on the need to diversify a major festival for Winnipeg's art community. In 2016, the partnership between Black Space Winnipeg and Artists Exchange (the studio of Gibril Bangura) showcased the talent from Winnipeg's newcomer African community and local artists of colour, such as Mahlet Cuff, Xavier Mitshipayi, Uri Portillo and Dubem Ukaigwe.
Nuit Noire 2017
For 2017, our partnership with Aceartinc, with support from Culture Days Manitoba and Nuit Blanche Winnipeg created another evening filled with art that represented our community. Taking up space and making room for Winnipeg's diverse artistic Black community across all disciplines is our goal. This year Winnipeg Black artists created an interactive, pro-black, artistic vision, executed through unique creativity and artistic expression. Over 24 Black artists were showcased from across the country and came from both visual and performance backgrounds.
By the efforts of our community, participating artists and volunteers Black Space Winnipeg was awarded second place in the Emerging Artists Program from Nuit Blanche Winnipeg. Black Space Winnipeg continues to support Black artists through artist demonstrations and initiatives that break down barriers and open doors for emerging and established Black artists.
